Our concept

Born in the middle of the last century

Aux Trois Maries is one of the oldest bouchons in Lyon, born in the middle of the last century, when Eluard and Aragon would meet on the place de la Baleine for lunch.

Once known as “le café des primeurs”, after the market on the banks of the Saône, the restaurant was taken over after the war by the celebrated Tante Paulette.

Then in turn by the Bolomier, Monnet and Fournier families, who earned it its reputation.

The origin of the name

The Three Marys

The restaurant takes its name from the rue des Trois Maries, named in the 17th century after the three Marys of the Gospel.

I

Marie-Salomé

Mother of the apostles James and John. She is among those who go to the tomb on Easter morning.

II

Marie-Jacobée

Mother of James the Less. She follows the procession to the foot of the cross.

III

Marie-Madeleine

The first to whom Christ appears, and the first to carry the news.

Three silhouettes that the restaurant's logo still carries today.
