You climb to Fourvière for the basilica, the Roman theatre and the view over the rooftops of Lyon; you come back down wanting a real Lyonnaise table. Aux Trois Maries, born in the middle of the last century, holds that thread without folklore: honest, local cooking served in a room of chequered tiles and wall slates.
The address takes its name from rue des Trois-Maries, named in the 17th century after the three Marys of the Gospel. It extends the hill's heritage walk into a moment of conviviality, in a more contemporary Lyon bistro spirit, yet always generous.

Steps from the basilica and Saint-Jean
From the Fourvière hill to the restaurant, the way is short: the funicular from the Vieux-Lyon station, or a walk down through the Rosaire gardens, leads straight to Saint-Jean cathedral. From there, rue des Trois-Maries opens a few metres away, in the heart of the Renaissance quarter listed as a World Heritage site.
In fine weather, the terrace spreads over the cobbles, in the shade of the lime tree on place de la Baleine — the perfect stop between a morning of sightseeing and an afternoon in the traboules. Metro line D reaches Vieux-Lyon station within minutes from Bellecour and the Presqu'île.
To the north of the hill lies the Saint-Paul quarter: our restaurant on the Saint-Paul side extends the walk to Saint-Paul church and its Belle Époque station, a few lanes from rue des Trois-Maries.

We're open Tuesday to Sunday, lunch and dinner: lunch from noon, dinner from 7pm, with a slightly later service at the weekend. The restaurant is closed on Monday.

Booking is strongly recommended, especially at weekends and in peak tourist season, when the Fourvière area and Vieux-Lyon are very busy. You can reserve online or by phone.
